swuk story bru.
hate to say this but its really lame to ask everyone else to sort it out for you. its the gangster mentality - like "i'm gonna call my brother's friends". doesn't solve a thing. bet he's got friends too. rather sort it out or, if you don't, let it go.
that's my zen advice for the evening.

hahaha.. pretty much the same thing happend to me today.. i was out at my local break, Onrus beach, i was already riding the wave for about 10 meters and then this 30something year old kook surfer drops in on me like i didn’t even exists.. eventually the guy pulls of the wave, jumping of his surfboard, nearly taking my head off... There is nothing that i hate more than these arrogant surfers that pollute our line ups, if a bodyboarder is on a wave they think its fine to just drop in on him and pretend he doesnt exist.. whats up with that?!?!? AND NO, HE DIDNT DROP IN ON ME COZ I SNAKED HIM! was on the inside long before him.. and even if i wasn’t I’ve been riding onrus pretty much everyday for the last 7 years and this fool that comes through from cape town or wherever for the weekend thinks he's gonna come here and throw his wieght around like he's a local or something... please... i dont care how much older he is than me, i will not tone any respect to anyone with a attitude like that.. the funniest thing is those kook surfers you get that think coz they surf a spot once every 2 months they get locals status.. what a joke..
Anyway when I got to back to the line up the kook doesn’t even have the decency to apologize, thus indicating that the drop-in was intentional.
This is most certainly not the first time a incident of this nature has occurred here.. Its becoming more and more common for surfers to burn bodyboarders for no apparent reason other than the surfer believing its his ‘right’ to drop in on bodyboarders.. Once I was out at Sandbaai and this surfer wouldn’t stop dropping in on me so I confronted him and asked him what his problem was (okay so maybe I got a bit worked up and said something along the lines of: “what the hell is your problemâ€) and the ou didn’t say anything, just darted in my direction and started throwing punches.. They guy obviously had NO morel ethics what so ever as he was probably in the thirties and one would not expect an “adult†to resort to such violence, especially on a 16 year old kid.. Anyway I fought back to defend myself and it was him that got the worse end of the stick, with a blood nose + my friends dad waiting to sort him out on the beach, after my buddies dad (this guy is 6ft+ and built like a rhinoceros) confronted him, his motives changed completely and apparently I snaked him… hmmm.. hahaha the look on his face.. In the end he apologized and shook my hand..
I wont tolerate any surfer (or anyone non-local) burning me at my local break like I’m some piece of kelp floating on a wave and nether should anyone else.. Surfers need to learn to respect bodyboarders if they want to come play on our turf, regardless of age.
That’s my story..
peace
ElementreeJune 2007You say that you paddled the hardest to get onto the inside before anyone else?
Was it your turn in the line up or were you hassleing to get into position?
(eg...did you paddle past this guy to get onto his inside?)
I do however agree that there are a lot of prats in the water-not all of them stand up.
My mates and myself were at Yzers today and just couldn't take the mad crowd-drop ins and general hassleing, so we left and surfed a sick shorey by ourselves.
Some okes are arsewipes-nothing much you can do about that, but there is something you can do about the way you conduct yourself in the water.

@ Elementree, where the wave came up there was nobody there, we were all to far on the right of the wave so we all paddled for it, and no i didnt take the lead, i was in the lead the whole way so practically it was my wave

"Surfers need to learn to respect bodyboarders if they want to come play on our turf, regardless of age."
So its ONLY kook standups that drop in, act like fools and generally make a arse of themselves then huh. Well hate to burst your little bubble mate I have been burnt, snaked, dropped in by more bodyboarders than surfers. This whole thread is about how bad standups are and how they dont respect bodyboarders, well I dont respect anyone who snakes and drops in, whether they standup or lie down, both the same to me.
Things like " I paddled really hard to get the inside" and "the wave was practically mine" make me laugh, keep up the good relations with our water using cousins and the next time I am out in the water I will keep an eye out for the bodyboard enforcers as you guys would think you were getting snaked at Pipe, not Table View and Onrus.
ElementreeJune 2007Ah well...like i said...not much you can do to change other people, only thing you can do is not do that kind of thing to others(stand-up or not) because you know how much it sucks to be burned.
Fighting never solves anything. Nor does it make you the bigger man for giving him a bloody nose.
Karma is a b*tch and for those that drop-in their pay-day will come.

So what your saying is... that if u get snaked or dropped in by anyone.. if ur at table view or onrus you wont do anything about it? even though they have been dropping in on you on your last 5 waves for example?

Wait a minute!!!! Let me get this straight...there were actually waves this weekend???? I was at Caves yesterday and it was a whopping 1ft...with 30 people out!!!!
I should actually start a new thread called "f***ing annoying things bodyboarders do"
#1. When they get in the water in a group of more than 3 they always seem to howl and cackle like a bunch of mad cow disease ridden hyenas...because for some reason they seem to think it makes them 'amped' even if its smaller than the waves at the Vaaldam.
#2. They love to bitch and moan about the "scene" that's vrekking and the fact that they don't get enough 'corporate love'...dude if you wanted to make money in life you should have (not of Hugh!!!) studied harder and gotten a proper job. Bodyboarding will never make you rich, so get over it and get on with your life...you're not as good as you think you are!
#3. They love to bitch and moan about surfers doing this and surfers doing that...whatever! Yesterday I met the nicest guy ever at Caves and he was a stand-up. He gave me waves and just talked shit in general. Why? Maybe because when he paddled in I greated him and didn't treat him like some suspect motherf***** because he rides a piece of fibreglass. You guys need to grow up and stop taking it in the ass...you're making yourselves out as a bunch of victims.
And in the process you're turning into a little jock-mafia...who happen to be real dicks to other bbers who aren't in your "I can bust seven ARS's on a 30ft wave" clique.

Tableview is a Kite boarding spot, and when there is no wind all the clueless tourists paddle out on their brand-new minimals and big-wave guns, so bru, kookism goes with the territory. Same as Big Gay er I mean Big Bay ect ect ect.....Now Melkbos, well thats just a frikkin joke most days with 500 laaities with no respect, no clue and no manners. I have more respect for some of the stand-ups at Melkbos than 95% of the bbers there, cause at least to surf stand-up at Melbos you have kind of know what you're doing, cause paddlng the rip without flippers is carnage and dodging all the snaking, dropping in, clueless bellyboarders......
But it's all relative, if you are bieng dropped in on, who cares what they ride you must say something or go home and BBrd your PC game. I agree with Nico, lets stop bitching and moaning on this forum like a bunch of whinging old ladies and go get some waves.....

hate the Volcom House on the NS, i cant imagine how it would be if they wern't there to keep things in order.. There would be total chaos out at Pipe, people would be dropping in on each other the whole time etc.. I dont agree with the way which the "Wolf Pack" handle matters, accidents do happen and its not necessary to give an ou a beat down coz he ACCIDENTLY dropped in on a local, but the basic principles are there..

Interesting. I'm out at melkbos almost every day.
I find the people that drop in on me most ofter are random non-locals who i have never ever seen before and some how have the idea because i ride a bodyboard that i am wasting the wave?
I have been told by middle aged men they gonna beat the shit out of me after i confronted them for dropping on me? My brother who surfers was actually hit by a knee boarder out at melkbos cause they guy didn't like how many waves he was catching.
My doctor refused to let me compete in the margate comp after a surfer did a cut back onto my head while surfing melkbos. I went up and rode the comp anyway left on the day i was ment to go for a second set of x-rays.
The guy paddled for a wave while i sat watching... he didn't make the wave. I paddled for the next wave and took off.. mean while he paddles to the inside and takes off after i am already riding this wave. He passes me so im like okay he knows i am here im not gonna shout just chill wait for the end section to roll or what ever. He then turns around and rides nose first into my head. After i get my bearings i find a surfer swearing at me wanting to hit me cause i snaked him and broke his board. That was unfortunately one of the surfers i did respect in the melkbos line up...
Some surfers are really cool and don't drop in... others are just retards believing their sport is better and some really just don't know any better.

Howzit Matt, Yeah we could all just get barreled, boost, talk kak but at the end of the day where is this this gonna get us (the bodyboarding industry)?
If you never wanna see bodyboarding as big surfing then what you said is cool. But if you want to see the sport grow, positive criticism is crucial..
I do get your point though..
Why is it that there is always such negitivity buzzing around when it comes industry related topics? The majority of the people on here are ready to gun down any ideas of getting bodyboarding out there.. The way i see things are: "If you're not part of the sollution, you're part of the problem" and i thinks this is very true when it comes to bodyboarding..
I'm starting to think that people actually dont want to see bodyboarding grow with just about everyone supporting comments like: "if you wanted to make money in life you should have studied harder and gotten a proper job. Bodyboarding will never make you rich, so get over it and get on with your life..." Am i right?
Maybe this is why bodyboarding is still so 'underground', coz no one wants to get it as big as surfing?
This could very well be the root of the problem.. Which if it is the case, there is no sulotion for.. So why am i even trying?

i did an invert (ok eppo air) off a surfers head at tube wave last summer.. oke was going for his feet (dropping in) and well i just went for him .. hit the section, hit him, landed it, pulled off, got serious stink eye from him, laughed at him and paddled past and went and lined up again with the other tube wave "locals".. but in all honesty.. melbos really is the long beach of the west coast. They even have goat boaters there and th eokes have beards too.
Ok now this is mean.. and when i was in my early 20s and in the middle of my gym career (ie i was more bif than i am now) i got into a bad habit of pulling surfers leashes when i got dropped in on.
In hindsight i am glad no one got seriously hurt cos that was a real dumb thing to do.... especially at kalk bay.

No, not at all.. I dont think one chooses a sport because of the state of its industry.. We'l i dont at least
All i'm trying to say is that i'd love to see bodyboading on TV one day and to see the prefessionals in our sport making a decent living from bodyboarding, not having to run a extra job like doing pizza deliviers to support a family..
peterbee wrote:

For the record, i most certianly have no intention of making a career from bodyboarding if thats what you'r implying.. not THAT good.. haha.
But what i would like to see is the top guys in our sport having the option of bodyboarding as a real career path..
I know i may probably sound like a fishwife at times but im only trying to good, to get bodyboarding the respect it deserves, the respect that all other extreme sports out there have, like surfing or skateboarding for example..

Elianderthehateful
June 2007
Well, personally I think it is quite arrogant to think that one is entitled to make a living from something like a sport/game whilst some people have to sweep streets and clean toilets just to not starve to death. If you have to deliver pizzas for extra cash, well then I guess you're using bbing as a way to get around the fact that you wouldn't have made much without bbing as a possible career path.
Choice is yours.
If you want to surf everyday and not starve to death, then you'll have to deliver pizzas, or use your brain and do something from home. If you want to earn an honest living, then, like 99% of us, you'll have to work your ass off, and be grateful that you get to surf during the weekends.
You don't hear me complaining about not being able to surf everyday due to work requirements. That's life dude. Be grateful...

Guy, when ever did i shoot any one down?? there is a big diffrence between 'shooting someone down' and hussling people coz the don't exactly have the most idealist mindset towards bbing, eg.
"if you wanted to make money in life you should have studied harder and gotten a proper job. Bodyboarding will never make you rich, so get over it and get on with your life..." do you see this as a positive approach?!?! This isnt gonna get 'our incredible sport' anywhere buddy

THis happens to me almost every session. I was thermos the other day and i had already had like a 100 meter ride when a surfer drops in on me and nearly cut my face with his fins. This is bs i never drop into surfers and they always think they own the place and can drop into anyone. My friends surf and they always drop into each other (what kooks) im not sure if this is the surfing way but im getting pissed off. I dunno wat to do as most of them will kik my ass if i tune them so there is nothing much wat i can do. One of the reasons i bodyboard is to hav a good time and i cant really do this if i get abused by these bs surfers. I KNOW NOT ALL SURFERS ARE LKE THIS.
