I have been trying to figure out a way to guesstimate the number of bodyboarders in South Africa. There will never be an exact number but for marketing purposes I am trying to find our more or less. Any idea's?
There are some smart freaks around here. Maybe someone has the answer? good times.

I reckon a good place to start if you are thinking of doing some research is maybe to approach each of the provinces and ask them for their membership numbers. I know that this will not give you an exact indication as many, many riders do not compete, but it would be a good starting point.
You could do the same thing with any clubs that you know of and ask for their membership details.
Or approach SABA - they should have numbers in a database...
Again, it would only look at those people competing (or who have competed in the past), and you could probably add about 30-40% to that figure I reckon (thumb suck of course).
But you might want to include all those "Vaalies" who come down to the coastlines over holiday periods too??? And then your numbers grow...
Bodyboarders or boogieboarders? There might be quite a substantial difference there...

Or you could ask Kelly how many members the site has and add a couple tens of thousands to the figure

well Sixty40 has 1763 registerd members, but I would estimate the real number of bona fide members is arround 1500.... so thats 1500 boggers with some kind of acess to the internet. Logic used to print 6000 copies, so that gives you a bigger number. My guess is that there are probably about 5000-10000 boogers is South Africa, of which about 200 compete at a national level, and 500 compete at a provincial trials level. What do you guys think? Any comments?
