Daniel Worsley wins Shark Island Trials

posted by Sacha Specker on 13th June 2010

Today Daniel Worsley surfed his way into a slot in the 2010 Shark Island Challenge.

Surfing each heat with renewed confidence and calculated strategy, Dan won the Trials over Sam Strachen, a young Cronulla ripper, in second, taking the final remaining slot into the main event.

Daniel tells about his preparation, execution and future plans to infiltrate the Australian Bodyboarding scene.

BUILD UP:

"The build up to the event couldn't have been any better. The swell has been so consistent, and the banks on the Northern beaches where I'm staying has been really good! There's also been a lot of rain which means days of work for me so for the past 2 weeks I've been been having loads of practice and was feeling super confident towards the event!"

DAY MISSION:

"Kruger and I got up at 5:30am and headed down to Cronulla. It was a really cool day, all the guys were at the beach and was good to see a lot of old friends i haven't seen since the last time i was here. When i was in the water it was pretty funny, because all the local boys had so much support cheering them on, wave spotting for them, and all i had was Kruger and Spex. Everytime someone in my heat caught a wave I could hear the beach going CRAZY!! All i was thinking is these guys must have been getting 10's on every wave. Then I'd get a wave that i thought was good and i could just hear Spex and Kruger claiming it. Pretty funny!"

FUTURE PLANS:

"I'm going to be in Australia for a long time, so I'm hoping to do as many of the tour events as possible, work and save some bucks to go to Hawaii, and just carry on hanging out with the guys and missioning for as many waves as possible. Should be fun! I'm really enjoying it here, and its good to have some SA boys over here with me!"
