Malaria incedents umong bodyboarders along S.A. shoreline

  • October 2010
    Hi.
I am Ockert Pretorius, head research scientist for Unite 4 Malaria.org We have done sunstantial research on malaria cases along the Southern African coast, and would like open discussion and feedback from sports men and women practising/living within these same areas.
Research have mostly been done on infants, lower income groups and the elderly. Feedback from people in good/great health is an area we want to explore - and who better to ask than bodyboarders, surfers and tri-athletes performing in sports along the coastlines of South/Southern Africa.
If you/a friend have had a malaria infection, contracted along the coastline (West or East or South Coast) - please send me some detail.
    Kudos

I live in Durban but have lived a few years in Zululand too but haven't had or really heard of surfers/bodyboarders contracting malaria there.
I do know a bodyboarder who got it pretty bad on a trip up to Mozam!
