i am about to display what an idiot i am, but if you dont ask you'll never know. i always though NMD was short hand for nomad. well today to my horror while browsing F7 i realised the signs were different and my life fell to pieces!! the world as i knew it changed! forever!

ok, so thats over the top, but what does NMD stand for then?? i think nomad and VS is from Oz, so is NMD from Oz as well. and just to clarify, nomad sponsor in our mag and not NMD or do they both sponsor?? just so i know which brand is supporting us.

    cheers :D

NMD stands for "Nick Meseritz Designs", obviously started by Nick Meseritz or Mez as he is known, one of the world's top shapers. VS is a project started by NMD as a collaboration between a bunch of top riders and shapers. and then nomad is a different company all together. NMD and VS are distributed by the same person in south africa i think, and there was a full page of advertising between the two of them in the last mag, but I haven't noticed anything in the latest. nomad is distributed by factory 7 as far as I know and all together they are one of the company's doing the most for the sport in the country right now.

yup lyle is spot on there! The same bunhc of guys run NMD and VS together in SA.

Nick is probably one of the best shapers in the world and really on top of things when it comes to designs and shapes!! the problem nowdays is everyone gets used to riding stock boards cause unfortunately the bodyboard industry doesnt allow us to very easily order our own custom boards like surfing. sad but true! The problem i find is a lot of the shapers come up with the shapes and designs but you as the buyer dont really realise that most of the shapers never get in the water or barely know how to bodyboard... so you got someone shaping you a board that cant even bodyboard! Doesnt make sense... however there are a few brands that are doing well cause they really are following what the riders think / shape / designs etc !!

I used to ride BZ boards with my own custom shapes and when time came for new boards cause was back in SA it became a mission to find a stockboard with dimensions i like.. took me over 6months probably. But yeah finally came across NMD and love the shapes, materials and cant go wrong with it i believe. there are quite a few other brands out there that are probably pretty good also which i havent tried but honestly most brands are shaped the way the shaper kind of pieces them together and then you as the rider ride them and think they are sick but not realising that other boards will improve your riding and so much better performance!!

oh well so is life and the joys of going through boards and learning what you like and dont!

ps - just seen the new NMD and VS catalog for 2009 and its looking very sweet!! if you keen for me to email you a copy let me know with the email address...

    hi all boogers

Nick Mesritz is probibly the best shaper in the world. he only use the top of the range materials in the boards that he shapes. he is one of the directors of Broadyasia in Indonisia. The brands that Nick is involved with is HB, NMD, Pride, Scott Hawaii, Reef Bodyboards. Nick also does all the manufacturing of SCIENCE bodyboards. Mike stewart designs the the SCIENCE range and Nick Shapes it. The quality of the SCIENCE boards in material and workmanship are of the highest level. That is why the SCIENCE board do perform so well, with Mick Stewart's experience and designs and Nick's workmanship. Each model do get tested to perfection and the boards in the shops are the same boards that the team riders and Mike Stewart rides.

    Hi All

Think Marc and JDV pretty much summed up NMD and VS. The new range of boards will be in stock in all good stores and Factory 7 in the summer. The range includes the new look NMD Ben Player and Winchester models and the new look VS Ryan Hardy, Mitch Rawlins and Pierre Louis Costas models. If anyone needs more information please call me on 079- 902 8622 or email [email protected] or [email protected].
