man this is a tough one! ive surfed ct, george, knysna, jbay, pe, el, durbs. and they have all had good spots on certain days. i have awsome memories of each and every place. to answer your question as best i can, if you have a tank of petrol ct has alot of spots and you can find a wave in almost any wind direction. according to surf and bbing mags over the years, el is also a pretty consistent good wave hunting ground. (i am biest here as i live here). you just need some local knowlege, tank of petrol and head out of town(out of town meaning 30min drive). even our in town spots are good. in the latest 60/40 mag they mentioned easterns, but we have WAY better spots than it. its just the most common in town spot.

good luck dude on resolving this question!

Definitely Mossel bay.. Many consistent world class reef breaks. Plus if there arnt waves in Mossel bay there are plenty of spot in close proximity that one can check out, eg. Herolds bay, Gouritz, Klein brak

Umhlanga - wins hands down for summer!!! Warm water, cooking surf all day, the odd cyclone swell, pumping shorebreaks in the afternoon, meisies frolicking on the beach, Umhlanga sands hotel pumping out techno and hip hop into the lineup, party vibe for 6 weeks, bars and niteclubs for nite time antics....the list is endless.

just surfd black rock crazy fun 3-4ft this morning for 5 hours and frothing for the afternoon midbreak session. Plus you in proximity to literally dozens of other epic spots, and it hardly ever gets crowded in the water during the week. Living the dream:)

haha i see they do that at big bay these days... take out the sound system and start blasting some tunes.. quite enjoyable when you in the water... only if they did that at other more class spots :/

i did buffalo bay. castle rock, which has hectic rips! and theres plenty of sand bars at the bottom of all those clifs. think the area is brenton on sea. then the old castles(cant remember the name of them).thats just as you enter knysna on the left. the most memorable was buffalo bay.

Durban FTW , you've got North Beach which can be amazing, and the other breaks along the beach front... 15 minutes either way is Cave Rock, or Umhlanga... and if your tank is full, Umhloti, Ballito up the coast or down...

plus warm water.... and less Great Whites...
