This must be about the fifth time I’ve tried to write this dam letter! Hey, this isn’t a joke man, after all, you’ll probably be struggling too if you happened to be staying right next door to Pipe! Yes you heard me right……….Pipe!. Boys and girls……we’re in Hawaii, to be more specific…North Shore! But you’ll have to wait tell next week to hear more about that.

You’ll probably be wondering where we have been the past two months…………or than again maybe not! After all, not one of you has even bothered e-mailing to find out if were alive or dead. Its all good though, I’ll just assume the surf’s been cooking and you’ve just been too tired by the end of the day to switch on your pc. Yeah right!

Almost two months ago our flight came to a holt on what I thought at the time, to be the smallest island in the Pacific. Funny enough I was proven wrong 5 weeks later, after our flight had to divert to the Christmas islands……now that’s small! Where was I again……………oh yes the island we were to call home for the next few weeks was …Fiji!

Thinking this would be a nice cheap destination , like Bali was a mistake. Turns out the Fijian Dollar is almost as strong as the Australian Dollar and that spells Trouble with a capital T. We were screwed!!!!! What the heck were we gonna do, when working in Fiji was out of the question…or was it!

After staying in Nadi for two days, we made our way down to the coral coast on board the local bus. Now there’s an experience you need to try out!
Pulling into the town of Sigatoka, we quickly organized a ride to the nearest surf spot. “Quickly” is a word I’m starting to hate…… very much so! Not giving it a second thought we were escorted by a local over the only and might I add, huge dune in Fiji. After walking for over 40 minutes, it finally dawned on us. One this guy didn’t speak English and two, the nearest civilization was way on the other side of the dune. Screw that! So we ditched our guide and cruised back over the dune to found Shipwrecks!

Aagh yes Shipwrecks………..one great little spot at the foot of the dune. Our home for the next month.
Why? , cause like I said before we needed money! And you wouldn’t believe in what form it was about to present itself in. You remember how lucky we were in Bali when stumbling across the Sports illustrated swim suit shoot, by the way the magazines out right now. Check it out man, we’re in it! Seems like one in a million chance of something like that happening….again right! WRONG!

Now with styling jobs and weekends off our focus turned to surf! Uuuummm yet another problem arrives. For those of you who don’t know…… most the waves in Fiji are either 3 km out ( if your lucky) or on some island near by. The problem is some w***er with too much money has already bought the island. Therefore these waves are gonna cost you……….. And I’m not talking chump change here. We’re talking big bucks….. Like $ 200 US a night, plus you’ve got to stay 4 or more days! Bullshit!
As far as I’m concerned they can stick it where the sun don’t shine!

Dam it once again the ever enchanting Pipe has woed me away from my desk. Seems she really doesn’t want me to finish this article……… so in order to please the beast I’m gonna rap this up fast.

You’re probably wondering what work we got? Think big….. Think real big, like Hollywood big! Yeah that’s right my peeps, we’re on the big screen. Working along side that chick from the seventies show and some dude who plays on Prison break. Crazy I know, but still true. So keep your eyes peeled for us next year round September. Pretty sick gig, don’t do much, eat all day and shout, kick and beat all the main actors! Plus get paid!

The rest is history as they say. Riaan and Attie decided on staying a little longer, while Lisa and myself headed across the Pacific to Hawaii.
