Decisions, decisions and more… decisions!

With only 2 days before the boat trip, two men down and Attie’s arrival due on Sunday… the decision was made! Screw the weak… the boat trips on like a Chinese tortoise on heat!

Poor Attie didn’t even know what hit him! Barely on the ground for thirty minutes and he walks straight into Eddie Solomon!, then finds out he’ll be on a boat by morning and the swells on the up. What a welcome!

Monday June 5. The engines roared to life and the water churned beneath us as we headed for our first stop, Shipwrecks! After a long four hours of open ocean swell for some, we finally moored just of Wrecks with a couple of green faces on board there was no time to waist. We jumped in the dingy and headed for the Wreck… crowded and only 2-3 foot. It wasn’t the greatest wave ever, but it was fun and after a few hours it was back to the boat for a good nights sleep!

Early Tuesday morning every one was out on deck eyes focused dead ahead, it didn’t look like much to the untrained eye, but we knew better. About 5km dead ahead stood the point a thick mist hovering just above it. A clear indicator that there was swell. The smiles on our faces said it all…this was DESERT POINT!
Aagh Desert point!… one of the best left handers in the world, set one foot wrong here and there’s a price to pay! With a razor sharp reef and a wave that actually gets bigger the longer you ride it! But the number one death trap here is … the current! In a matter of seconds you can be taken out to sea never to be seen again.
By 14:00 that day things were out of control… 4-6 foot with long almost endless barrels and offshore winds spelled only one thing… SICK! With sessions lasting hours, sunburn and exhaustion setting in the day was coming to an end, little did we know there was still one surprise left in store. Turns out while we were all getting barreled of our tits, Nikolai the great went spear fishing and shot… an 18kg fish!
So after a great meal and many praise to Nikolai we rested our little heads down and drifted away ……

Wednesday morning and after a quick surf at Desert’s we pulled anchor and set course for Scar reef and Super Sucks! This is by no means a quick journey, especially with our four little engines, but with Bintangs onboard you soon forget!
