Yee ha………. Sick…… cooking…… pumping son pumping!!!

I’m not sure if it was the alarm clock or the thunder outside my window that woke me that morning, but one thing was for sure….. It was to be the start of a great day!

Friday 19th May 05:00am….. Still sleepy, I peered out my window to see what the commotion was, only to discover the thunder wasn’t coming from the sky……. it was coming from the ocean!
Stoked and now wide awake we quickly grabbed our gear, jumped on our Harleys and headed straight for Uluwatu. Things weren’t looking too good at this point, the swell was coming in all wrong for Ulu’z and the crowds were already mounting . We all voiced our opinions about where to next and so after everyone having a different view, we decided to split up. Riaan and Henkie landed up surfing Bingin, with the rest of the boys opting for Dreamland. Yes, they did get good waves ……. Hell if you’ve ever surfed Bingin you will know you’re guaranteed sick pits …with some serious crowds though!

However, while they went on their mission, Lucien and I decided to check out Padang Padang. Now, the thing with Padang is…. you drive past it and hell you can see the little beach below and the sick waves coming through, but you’ll be mistaken. You see, the waves you’re looking at isn’t Padang … its actually Impossible’z. The trick is to walk down through the caves and then only once you’re on the beach will the truth be revealed. Lucien was stoked, his last day in Bali and here we were surfing Padang, only three guys in and all of us getting barreled off our titz! Unfortunately, nothing last’s forever and with the tide pushing, it was time to head back.

Back to the fat reef/rock/shore break at Dreamland, the only boys opting for this session were Henkie and myself. However, the only thing fat about this wave was …….. the fat poundings we took.
What a day it was, but how were we to sleep on a night like this when the swell was pumping and the forecasters were predicting double overhead.

Saturday 20th May, 05.00am…after a long restless night things were about to get serious. Padang Padang was on …and there would be no mess’in around this morning. By first light Henkie and I were in the line up, and with 4-6 foot barrels heading our way, we were laughing! Conditions were perfect…it was like a dream, a clean, mean barreling machine…pure perfection. (You jealous yet?) Anyway after an hour or two the crowds were mounting, tensions were running high, and a couple of close calls later it was time to call it a day, but what did we care…our smiles said it all, we’d reaped the rewards of our dawnie, yeah baby yeah!

Not to say the waves weren’t good the rest of the day, but how could you compare anything to this morning. The only thing left………………..an ice cold Bintang. Sick
