ODB Update

While I've been in France Stuart Butler, my travel mate, and I were reminiscing on an adventure we took to Mozambique a beautiful country just above South Africa. We managed to dig up the shots and now you can see what Mozambique is like.

We had arrived in SA and decided to head up to Mozambique to join Italian photog Emiliano Mazzoni and surf explorers from the UK Stuart Butler and Ben Wallis. After a desperate mission to find a car (due to all the land mines, pot holes and corrupt police) to borrow. Vijay Maharaj a top SA bodyboarder jumped at the chance to hit the Mozambique coastline. On board from our side were fellow traveller and ODB World Tour organiser Ralph Sanchez, pro South African bodyboader Ian Kruger and myself. Little did we know that it would take us a 17 hour drive through hell, dodging pot holes, cattle and little kids, and taking heed to the land mine signs, to get to our un-named location in Mozambique. We pulled into our plush 5 star shack on the beach in the middle of the night to hear the roar of the ocean. (All having no idea where the hell we were, where the rest of the crew were or where the waves were) Waking early we were surprised to see when they said shack on the beach, they meant shack on the beach - 20 steps and I was in the sea. HA. After enquiring some local fishermen we found some sick waves on reef, sand and rock all in a short area of coast.

As most surf travellers will tell you the best part of most surf trips are not normally the destination but the journey and adventure had in the middle. Those late nights around the fire, the stories you tell your mates aren't the ones about the epic waves you had but more about what happened to you and your buddies while away. We nearly didn't survive the Mozambique trip and many other crazy adventures to boot, if you ever catch me around a campfire I will tell you sometime. Otherwise enjoy the shots. Remember the adventure is out there for the picking, make your own and you will never regret it.
