Saffas on the Rock: Vol 1

Well it's that time of the year again when every professional and wannabe boardrider descends upon the most glorified stretch of coastline in the world - the North Shore of Oahu.

With the bodyboarding contest getting pushed back to Feb and most of the Ozzies and Euro's biding their time at home, the Saffa crew have pounced at the prospect of empty(ish) lineups and getting comfortable in the heaving conditions this season.

Our 6 strong crew of Sacha Specker, Brandon Foster, Mark Watts, Charles Pass, Ryan Janssens and yours truly have definitely been cashing in on the good waves and good times the last few days.

Slightly scattered across the 7 mile miracle, we congregate each morning to do the obligatory 'Bike check' (no one likes hearing the waves were cranking when you were sleeping in), before getting pitted and then chilling hard all day as only a Saffa can.

Life is good and the aloha is flowing, the boys are ripping (I havent seen anyone surf as I have been in Australia for the year) and I'm confident that the boys are going to be a real force on the NS once the rat-grind really begins. Everyone has worked really hard to be here and I'm loving how hard the boys are working for free now too.

Keep your eyes peeled for more photographic goodness coming your way soon from the lenses of Spex and Ryan 'Cracker' Janssens. As I'm writing a new swell is building after only half a day of small waves and then next one is not far off.

Can't stop the Rock.

Boeti your legend lives on here - you just got a sick feature on swellnet titled "No problem for Houston" text reads:
The eagle has landed in the pit of a backless bomby. With just two feet of buckled water below and eight feet of pitching lip above the situation looks dire.
South Africa's Jared Houston pilots his way through two heaving pits somewhere off the East Coast of NSW. Steve Jones captures the action."
with appropriate sick pits. Hope that psyches you bruuuuuu
