2757 | 04 Nov 2004 | Kiryn Clay | Erina | Australia | To see such events denied will send a message throughout the world about the negative sentiment of the Hawaiian government towards bodyboarding. Having the privilege to direct bodyboarding in NSW Australia as president. I have witnessed over the years, a growing population of keen youthful people whose main goal in life is to compete in the Hawaiian pipeline event. Not all will be competing this year, or next, but are looking long-term to have an opportunity to be there. It is even poignant to remind you that the competitive calendar of bodyboarding in Australia is geared to align with the Hawaiian winter, and the Pipeline contest. Making sure, that with maximum effort, that the pipeline contest and the conclusion of the World Supertour is available to either competitors or spectators alike from our region. To put it simply, pipeline is the most important contest in our world, I demand you realise this, and understand the repercussions of denying the event are felt the world over. |

How frustrating for the real locals whose participation in the sport has brought untold revenue and exposure to that little island. |

2720 | 03 Nov 2004 | Robbie Crawford | Huntington Beach | United States | It's pretty obvious that the Bodyboarders are not asking for equality. They're asking for the absence of what is clearly unwarranted prejudice. If the Mayor Jeremy Harris and/or City Hall can’t see clearly through issues of prejudice in a simple issue such as what toy you like to play with in the ocean. I would most assuredly have to question their ability to see through the more serious issues of prejudices like racism or economic status. It reminds me of the quote “He who is unfaithful in little, is also unfaithful in much." |
