Change to SABA Circuit Points Allocation

posted by Michael van Huyssteen on 23rd February 2012

In 2012 all SABA Circuit events will have the same points allocation irrespective of the "A" Rating. The "A" Rating will be determined by the total monetary value which will include cash prizes and retail value of prizes.

UPDATE 29 FEB:
Thank you all for your comments.

It has been decided to reverse the decision and revert back to the original points allocation according to the A rating of the SABA event. In hind sight the decision should have been accompanied with a reason. Well here follows the reason: the decision was an experimental one for the 2012 season. This was to encourage the smaller provinces to try and run a SABA sanctioned event, which hopefully would lead to sponsors seeing the value and mileage they receive from a SABA sanctioned event and would then up their sponsorship for the following year. By having the same points per event it was felt that the event will still attract the riders who wanted to give themselves a good chance of becoming a SABA circuit Champion. Riders from the province would also be encouraged to enter knowing that they did not have to travel around the country to compete equally on the SABA circuit. It must be noted that there was no disrespect intended to the provinces that had already negotiated with sponsors to up their sponsorship in order to increase the value of their events and thus attract the number of entrants.

It would be great if this topic be kept on the table for discussion so as to try and find a way to encouraging the provinces to at least have a 1A rated event as a start. Thank you once again for your input and good luck to all the riders competing in this year's SABA circuit.
