Kumba Iron Ore, the main sponsor together wih REEF SA and Boland Bodyboarding held their final Bodyboarding clinic at Brandy Bay, Saldanha on the West Coast of South Africa.

On Saturday 29 October bodyboarders from Lamberts Bay, who attended the previous West Coast development project were transported down to Saldanha for the day to join the Saldanha groms on their final day of the development project.

All together 70 groms hit the water and had loads of fun. These children are so eager to surf that they were not even interested in playing the beach games that was available and for them it was all about riding the waves.

The event began with the handing out of hoody tops, t-shirts, beanies. The Saldanha groms were given their kit which consisted of a wetsuit, fins, bodyboard and bag. Big smiles were soon seen after the handouts were made and one could definitely see that the new kit was welcomed by groms.

Soon after the handouts the kids had a feast with muffins and cooldrink sponsored by Just Muffins and Peninsula Beverages. And then it was time to warm up and hit the water. They all looked spectacular with their new kit and were all eager to get wet.

Bodyboarding came out tops during the day and the ocean once again provided the ultimate fun for these children. Magson Marine sponsored a Jetski for the day and kids were taken for rides which was a cause for great excitement. Brandy bay boarders invading the ocean was certainly a great scene to watch and showed that the sport of bodyboarding is growing rapidly on the West Coast of South Africa and will soon deliver some great champions in the near future.

The event also hosted a mini competition for the better riders and some 30 prizes sponsored by REEF SA were handed out to the winners.

The event was ended off with a wors braai and well deserved refreshments. Boland Bodyboarding would like to thank everyone involved during this project.

A special thanks goes to Kumba for making the funds available to give these kids a start to embrace this fun sport. Together with REEF SA this is seen as a very powerful combination to ensure growth and sustainability for bodyboarding in the West Coast region. Boland Bodyboarding is proud to deliver services for you.
