Day 1 at the Confital Pro

posted by Terry McKenna on 3rd December 2010

The last event on the 2010 IBA World Tour got underway in small but clean waves at El Confital.

Local rider Genisis Acosta was the days top scorer with a 7.5 average in the inconsistent right handers.

"I am just happy that I was in position for one of the biggest waves of the day" said Acosta.

"Even when its small this wave is fun"

French riders Mathew Desaphie & Nicloas Padrios also featured in the best scores of the day, following in the footsteps of French riders like Pierre Luis Costes and current world champion Amaury Laverhne.

"Yes there are many French riders in Anglet and also in my home of reunion who are really surfing well" said Amaury.

"The waves are really good and I think that with a big GSS event in Saint Pierre the local guys will be frothing"

The trails and opening round of the event was completed before the organizers decided to wait for something better tomorrow.

IBA World Tour manager Terry McKenna said that there is a record roll-up for the event in the Canary Islands.

"Yes, the event is completely full and in fact we had to knock back some late entries because we simply don’t have the time to complete all the heats"

"This contest is fast gaining notoriety as one of the best events in the world and like Pipe, riders have now put this on their "Bucket-list"as an essential stop on the tour" said McKenna.

Riders are to meet tomorrow at 8am for an 8.30 start
