Jared Housten joins Grand Flavour

Hey Jared,

Welcome to the team buddy.....

How does it feel to be riding amongst the caliber of riders in the Grand Flavour team?
Feels bloody amazing bru, super privileged to be part of the team, I haven't met Lewy but all the boys are legends and I guess that's real important. Ben, Dave and Chad are in a league of their own and I'm just pumped to have my name up there with theirs.

What do you think of the brand as a whole?
I think the designs, cuts and materials are second to none and the thing I probably noticed most was that GF sold to the mainstream in Aus and that's incredible, make money off the masses and plug it straight into bodyboarding. But yeah, I like that you can wear the clothes out aswell, not just at the beach or at comps but just everyday. It's good.

Why do you think they chose you?
I can't answer that but I can tell you that during my time with GF I will show them and the public why they chose me!

How has it been growing up in South Africa, seen some crazy shit?
Haha, yeah I have, nothing too nuts. I have had a gun in the mouth when I was about 13 but that's the only really gnarly thing. My family and I have always been well looked after. I think the craziest thing is living here and seeing the poverty so when shit gets stolen or something you actually go, ah its sweet they needed it more than me anyway. Just changes your perspective on things.

Why were you so emo as a kid?
Haha I need to take that photo down, the story goes I had been in a conventional school all my life where I had to have short back and sides until when I was 17 I went to a college for my final year. Emo was in at the time and I was the man bru, so many chicks! haha nah, but seriously, I didnt hate life or anything, I sorta hate that stage of my life now though! haha, SO GAY!

You've had a great year on the world tour, why do you think it's been so successful?
Thanks bru, Largely due to the support I have received from all my sponsors but specifically Turbo, providing me with the backing and boards to pursue it full time. I also think I'm just super eager to please, so I give it my all. It's just hard trying to excel in every comp so I need to get that dialled in!

Whats your plans for the next year?
Next year my plans are to just build on this year and keep climbing the ladder, work on my surfing specifically my consistency on lefts and also try and push into some crazy waves at some point.

Next year the tour should be pretty amazing and im in a good spot to qaulify so a no. 1 spot on the rank is also high on my priorities for the next few years. Main goal for next year is to just build my profile,surf heaps and finish in the top 3 on the tour.

Any new moves?
I have nothing. Haha, I like the invert flip and reverse and the idea of double forwards in the pit and in the air is sick too. I think one way we could go is too try and hit one of the big reefs, I think it could make for an amazing photo - or a lifetime of painkillers.
