SKZN Hurricane Champs 2009

The 2009 Southern Natal Hurricane Bodyboarding Championships was held at Uvongo Beach last Sunday in fairly decent conditions. The waves were contestable in the morning but dropped off considerably by the afternoon when the tide was at its fullest. This made finding decent connecting waves quite difficult and the competitors who managed to get those waves advanced to the finals.
Southern Natal Chairman Wayne Beekman was very satisfied with the amount of entries for this event as many students and scholars are currently busy with their year end or final exams. There was even an entrant from Cape town as well as Durban.
The standout of the contest has to be Darren Halse who won the Pro division even with a interference call. Junior rider Terence Pieters was denied his hat trick SN title win by a on form Grant van der Wagen and in the Dropknee division David Lee secured his umpteenth DK title against some stiff competition.
Hurricane once again came in to show their support by sponsoring all the prizes for the finalists. Southern Natal would just like to thank them for their ongoing support as well as to all the totalisers and judges together with the parents who made this event possible.
