Mothers Pride Award 09 - Still going Large!

posted by Gareth White on 8th June 2009

With almost a year having passed since "Chrizzle" lost his life under such tragic circumstances we are proud to announce the running of the Christopher Elliott "Mothers Pride" Award for 2009.

The award, which is the brainchild of Chrizzle's mother, Jacquie Jorgensen, was set up last year to remember one of South Africa's most remarkable young bodyboarders by acknowledging those who push the limits with regards to their riding.

The award is awarded each year to the rider who Jacquie feels busts the most Chrizzle like "Sly Guy" (invert).

"I am very pleased to inform you that online surf store, Factory 7, are our first sponsors and have pledged a R500 F7 voucher each year for the existence of the award," said Jorgensen.

Chrizzle had the knack of pulling the sickest "Sly Guys" out of the bag when he needed them in competition and his free surfing was exceptional, so this will by no means be an easy feat for prospective entrants.

Last year's winner was Kalk Bays very own, Ian Thurtell, who said that winning the award was an honour.

"After I had chosen Ian as the winner he showed me another shot from that session where Chris is in the background watching him bust," added Jorgensen.

All as you need to do in order to enter is get your gear and head down to a cranking spot, with camera crew in tow, paddle out, bust a gut launching the biggest "Sly Guy" possible and hope your mates capture it on film.

Once you have the shots, email them to and keep checking back on www.sixty40.co.za for updates.

So if you have some shots lying around of you busting in some of the recent big swell then don't hold back, submit them and stand a chance of winning the award.
