ISA World Bodyboarding Games opens bidding for host cities

Following the ISA decision of creating a separate, exclusive event for Bodyboard, the ISA is proud to announce the launch of the bidding process for candidate nations to host the historical first edition of the ISA World Bodyboarding Games.

This is an historic step for the ISA and for Bodyboarding. The discipline will now have its own World Championship held in the ISA "Olympic Style" spirit, with all the athletes competing as members of their National Teams.

In the recent past the ISA successfully launched the ISA Junior and the ISA Masters World Championships. In a similar way, the ISA plan to call for the hosting of the first ever World Bodyboarding Games will provide Bodyboarding an opportunity to conduct a contest in a Bodyboarding friendly way, using dedicated Judging panels and criteria.

Each discipline inside surfing has its own structure and needs. In the case of Body Boarding, the waves the athletes prefer to ride that make the discipline one of the most exciting sports in the world, are different than the ones most regular surfing competitions are held on.

Additionally, the judging expertise needed is very specific due to the range of acrobatic moves performed. Bodyboarding is a precise, technical sport and the judging panel assembled for an event of this discipline should have an extensive current knowledge of the sport. Judges in surfing tend to be specialized between bodyboard and surfboard disciplines and it is preferable to assemble a judging panel in this way. Now this can be economically done in a stand-alone bodyboard event structure.

The ISA sees this as a great improvement, not only for Bodyboarding but also for the sport of surfing. By having each surfing discipline in a high standard of development, our sport as a whole goes to the next level of organisation, which in turn helps the athletes reach new levels in their performances, opportunities and recognition.

ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, proud of the new initiative the International Surfing Association has taken, said: "The ISA decided to provide separate events for both stand up surfers and bodyboarders in order to provide the most appropriate waves and judging resources specific to each sport."
