DSD & Roam II premiere in Cape Town.

It's not often that the Cape based section of the South African bodyboarding community are offered the opportunity to watch two of the most eagerly anticipated bodyboarding films of 2008 at their local cinema, so it was no wonder the place was packed for the showing of Dreamsessions on Saturday 13 December at the Labia Theatre on Kloof Street.

With all the hype created around Colin van Dongen's bodyboarding documentary, Dontstopdreaming.tv-Episode 1. Chasing Dreams, the crowd lapped up every moment of the epic production. It has to be said that besides the gobsmacking footage and insightful interviews Colin really has outdone himself with the finer details of the production. The editing is top notch, the soundtrack original and the inlayed graphics add the proverbial "cherry-on-the-top" finish to a fantastic film.

Earlier this year Hawaii saw some of the best late season action in history. As the crowds disappeared the remaining few scored waves we either dream of riding or have suffered countless nightmares about. Hawaii is no playground. It is a testing ground for the fearless where, as Oros says - "Everything is extreme."

Chasing Dreams is more than just your average bodyboarding DVD. It is an inside look into the bodyboarding lifestyle that allows riders to express their personal opinions and share their experiences while actively living their dreams.

The crowd cheered as towards the end of the film as we remembered underground ripper, Ivan Friedman, who passed away just over a year ago after a hard fought battle with cancer. In a heart warming speech Ivan's close friend, Mark Clark, bore testament to his legacy. "Ivan lived the life he dreamed of. He got out there to see the world and enjoyed everything for what it was."

With the crowd buzzing back to their seats after a short break between films we were introduced to Roam 2, the latest creation from Digital Children and Australian Film maker, Bryce Thurston.

Digital Children have been at the forefront of film making for the past few years having had great success with their films, The Road and last years cruncher, Roam. Lets be honest. Those guys in Oz have it good. They have the waves, that for some or other reason seem to cook more often than Jamie Oliver does, and they have the financial backing to make exploring Australia's vast outback coastline a possibility. I am not taking anything away from these guys. Hell no! They're all nuts if you ask me and what they do is awe inspiring. They go out of their way to find the biggest and best waves in remote locations and tear the snot out of them. If you haven't seen any of these films then please do yourself a favour and beg, borrow or steal a copy. Ok don't steal it - bad idea!

Roam 2 is packed with some of the heaviest waves Oz has to offer, cavernous barrels breaking over shallow slabs and to top it all off Chris James, Glen Thurston, Jake Stone and Michael Novy boost insane jetski aided maneuvers that would make Superman want book himself some flying lessons from these nutters.

Once the films had shown some of us missioned off to a nearby pub and exchange stories about the stoke we have found through bodyboarding. After some rather uncomfortable, "How-hot-am-I?", questions from a slightly liquored local lady had left all of us speechless the highlight for me has to have been when the same girl stuck her tongue down Mike Dei-Cont's ear while he was at the bar. Ha ha. At least someone scored!

GOOD TIMES!
