The Helping Hand Fund, which is the brainchild of SABA Chairperson, Sally Mellish, is available to any SABA member who applies for funds in order to cope with financial burdens such as unexpected medical expenses and sudden bereavements.

"Upon evaluation of circumstances funds will be made available immediately and depending on the type of request payments will be made to the organisation or institution concerned - not directly to the applicant" added SABA Vice Chairperson and Contest Director, Pat Harris.

The funds, which are accumulated through contributions, were given their initial deposits by Sean Tickner and Derek Footit, who generously donated their winnings from the Wimpy-Rossi Pro-AM to the fund.

Tickner, who won the Drop-Knee Division, said that he saw the fund as a great initiative and he felt that if he could help someone out by making a contribution it would make it worthwhile.

"This is a brilliant gesture of good faith by a sport and community that I am proud to be a part of because one never knows what fate lies ahead", said Footit.

We as a community are unknowingly bound to one another in one way or another and we all know that life can dish out its fair share of curveballs, but by having this fund we are afforded some form of relief in knowing that if the worst was to happen, our 'brothers' will do their best to lend a hand.

"There are always situations where others can benefit from what I have achieved, and to donate the small amount that I did, was only a drop in the Ocean in comparison to the needs of those who will benefit from this fund for medical expenses, treatments, specialists and so on", concluded Footit.

"If the bodyboarders and their families out there could spare a thought for others that are slightly less fortunate and consider donating to the fund then I'll be happy! You might be the next person who needs a 'Helping Hand'", concluded Tickner.

If you feel in anyway obliged to assist this noble cause or for more information on the fund please contact Sally Mellish or Pat Harris on the following email addresses.
