Mark McCarthy signs with Lizzard International

News has filtered through to sixty40 that Mark McCarthy has recently signed a sponsorship deal with global surf wear brand, Lizzard International.

Lizzard, a home grown brand founded in 1991 by Cuan Cronje, began hearing echoes of McCarthy's name whilst he competed on last years International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) World Tour, where he finished in 4th place overall. After months of talks, Lizzard signed him to their label in March. Lizzard has in the past sponsored some of South Africa's top bodyboarders and hopes to raise the companies profile amongst the core crew and bodyboarding supporters in South Africa.

"I am super stoked to have signed with Lizzard and I think that it is a great that they are getting back into bodyboarding. Lizzard being an international label helps a lot as it will be internationally recognized. I will be looking forward to working closely with Lizzard over the next year.", commented a chuffed McCarthy.

McCarthy truly did stamp his "mark" on the bodyboarding world during his rookie year on the IBA tour and has impressed many with his focus, determination and all-out riding ability - some have said he has the makings of a future World Champ!

"It's not often you have the chance to sponsor and associate your brand with one of the top up and coming riders on a global level so we were stoked to be able to have the opportunity to do so", commented Lizzard International Marketing Manager, Mike Frew.

McCarthy is currently in Australia where he is competing on the OZ tour in preparation for the Shark Island contest. After two events Mark is apparently in second place overall and when I spoke to him he said that he was going to be competing at the 3rd stop of the tour, which took place in Newcastle, 17 - 20th April.

"Lizzard sees growth happening once again in bodyboarding, and with the great job that Sixty40 is doing the core scene is getting a lot more exposure. Mark is leading a new crew that's part of this resurgence in bodyboarding. I think Mark's results and positive comments from guys like Mike Stewart and Jeff Hubbard tell one a lot about Mark's potential as a bodyboarder", concluded Frew.

"If all goes to plan I hope to achieve the best I can and will be going for the World Title, 2008 is going to be a good year for SA bodyboarding! Remember guys, support the labels that are supporting your sport and once again thank you Mike for giving me this opportunity", concluded McCarthy.
