Pull The Plug 2 Premiere at IMAX, Gateway

posted by Sean Tickner on 18th March 2008

After 2 1/2 years of hard work, it all came down to one night of absolute bodyboarding madness for the talented Jared Schafer and his cohorts, Dane and Dylan Forman from Pull The Plug 2.

The venue was IMAX Theatre in Gateway, Umhlanga and from the start everyone knew this was going to be an amazing evening. There were 300 seats available and as the night drew closer there were frantic calls going out for tickets and many hopeful fans were turned away at the door because all the tickets were sold out.

Let me set the scene for you, 300 frothing fans of bodyboarding, from groms to parents, a well stocked bar to quench the thirst, courtesy of Dane Lott of Stetsons Catering and Ryan Duvenage of BARCODE, and all the top riders from up and down the KZN Coast.

The evening began with a few giveaways from the Sponsors, NOMAD, Factory 7 and Hot Buttered and once the masses settled down, everyone made their way into the massive IMAX Theatre.

After a few formalities by the creator, Jared Schafer, the action began. With a solid hour of Non-stop bodyboarding action, there were cheers and applause after every section, there were laughs and gasps as all the years of hard work that had gone into the making of Pull the Plug 2 finally came to fruition.

With sections of the Top riders from South Africa as well as international riders surfing spots as far flung as Hawaii and Australia, to the spots closer to home, everyone's appetite for some intense bodyboarding action was fulfilled . Some amazing editing coupled with a good soundtrack clearly shows how much time and effort has gone into this production. There was stunned silence as we viewed some crazy footage from last years huge storms that wreaked havoc on the KZN coastline which truly showed how fearsome the Ocean we call our playground can be. The great part of the premiere (besides the actual dvd) was definitely seeing how much interest there was, with this the first ever showing at a venue like IMAX, it was truly a great experience. As the credits rolled and the crowd made there way out into the foyer, Jared drew the lucky number for a brand spanking new ATD Board, kindly sponsored by Alistair Taylor, which went to a clearly stoked Nathan Kunz.

Slowly the fans made there way home, many with copies of Pull The Plug 2 tucked securely under their arms.

As the dust settled on what was clearly the best Premier South Africa has ever seen, Cape Town prepares itself for the second Premier, being held on Thursday the 20th of March at Table View High School.
