The Western Province Bodyboarding Association Exco held a meeting on 6 December to discuss plans for the coming year.

As discussed during the meeting, WPBA will be aiming to develop hidden talents within the disadvantaged communities of the Western Cape. In order to do this numerous organisations will be approached and asked for their assistance with regards to finding the children who would excel in such activities. We have run such development clinics in the past, but were unable to continue with the training due to external forces. We would like to run more development clinics, with the main aim of sourcing children with whom this development can take place.

WPBA would like to see the rise of a new star in South African bodyboarding, someone whom without the influence of an organisation such as ourselves will most probably never have such an opportunity. We see this as the future of bodyboarding in South Africa and are willing to strive for a brighter future both for these individuals as well as South Africa as a whole.

We also discussed final arrangements for the Cape Classic 2007, but that was all business talk and I don’t want to bore you with that. Just to let you know that everything is moving ahead as planned and we hope to make next years Classic the best yet. When I have more news on the Classic I will let you know a.s.a.p!

As I mentioned in my previous write up, WPBA will be running their 2008 trails and Champs fairly quickly, which will allow more time for the 2008 team to be selected and work on team spirit.

The 2008 WPBA trials and Champs dates are as follows:-

Trial 1 - 16/17 February.

Trial 2 - 1/2 March.

Trial 3 - 12/13 April.

Trial 4 - 10/11 May.

The 2008 WPBA Champs will be held on either one of these two dates due to possible conflict with exams.

19/20 July or 2/3 August.

* We have given each trial and the champs a 1 day window so that if the swell is not contestable on the first day we can opt for running on the second day instead. These dates might be subject to change if severe conflict occurs.

Fee structure for these trials and champs is as follows:-

One Division: WP Fee R110, Plus R55 per trial, plus WP Champs R90 or R390 for the year.

Pro Division: WP Fee R135, Plus R80 per trial, plus WP Champs R110 or R530 for the year.

Two Divsions: WP Fee R110, Plus R110 per trial, plus WP Champs R180 or R680 for the year.

Pro & Division: WP Fee R135, Plus R135 per trial, plus WP Champs R200 or R810 for the year.
We will be posting WPBA membership forms within the next month, so keep checking back for updates.

For more information please refer to the WPBA website link on sixty40 for the contact details of the person you would like to speak to.

Until then, may we all have a joyous festive season and enjoy the promise of a prosperous new year.

Keep Safe.
