Hurricane SKZN Bodyboarding Champs

posted by Martin Otto on 30th November 2007

Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal Bodyboarding Association held its annual provincial championships at Lucien Beach last Sunday. The conditions looked really good, but contestants soon realized that the paddle was quite difficult and finding the better waves was just as challenging. The wind stayed away for most of the day, which made for a pleasant day.

There were quite a number of standouts in the event, Terence Pieters probably being the biggest one. Terence entered 3 different divisions and ended up making it through to the finals in each division. He took the Junior title, got a 3rd place in the DK division and was denied the hotly contested Pro title by Derek Footit, in the dying seconds of the heat. David Lee and Derek Footit went head to head as usual in the DK division and this time round it was David who narrowly got the better of Derek. Keeping a cool head and sheer determination paid of for Boys rider Conrad Bernhardt as he surfed well to move from 4th place to 1st place in the last 5 minutes heat.

SKZNBA would like to thank Hurricane Surf and Factory 7 for sponsoring prizes for the event. Thanks also go to the totalisers, judges and supporters for a very successful contest.
