2007 sixty40 Readers Poll update

2007 Readers PollHere is a quick update on how the 2007 sixty40 Readers Poll currently stands.

Having taken the World by surprise during his debut season on the International Bodyboarding Association World Tour, Mark McCarthy currently leads the race to being crowned as Top Male Rider, followed closely by Sacha Specker in second and SABA circuit, Pro Division Champ, Wesley Fischer in third.

Leading the charge towards the Top Ladies title is Robyn Sorensen with Lyndell Pells, currently in second place, hot on her heals and last years winner, Lisa-Mari Ras in third.

Heading the race for the title of Top DK rider is Californian based, Brandon Foster, who is more than 100 points clear of his nearest rival, current SA DK Champ, Sacha Specker. Not far behind Spec’s in third place is Vaughn Harris, so this one looks like its going to be tight for second and third place.

This year has seen the documentation of some exceptional big wave riding along SA shores. Rolling headfirst like a runaway freight train into every swell he came across this past winter, Peter Lambert, rightfully rests in poll position as the Top Big Wave rider. Alistair Taylor and Andre Botha occupy second and third place respectively.

We all know that "old school" is cool, so winning the Old School Legend award must mean you're a super cool ballie ... or something to that effect. Anyway, leaping into first place is none other than sixty40's mastermind, Kelly Footit, who has a marginal lead over Gordon Cockwell in second and Sascha Taljaard in third.

In every town, at every break, there is an unknown local ripping the life out of every wave, but getting very little recognition for doing so - hence the reason for the Most Underrated Rider award. Byron Loubser is currently "top dog" in the division, with Samuel "Sampi" Kamffer snapping at his heals in second place and Robert Gray in third.

The groms are the future of bodyboarding and from what I have seen over this past year these guys rip, and deserve recognition for their efforts. Could it be possible for Jared Houston to claim this award for the third year in a row? Well if the results remain the same he will, and in doing so once again be crowned as Top Grommet for 2007. Giving Jared a run for his money are Aden Kleve in second and Roger Pardoe in third.

Pictures can paint a thousand words, and for anyone who has ever spent time behind the lens of a camera, you will know that it is no easy task to catch the "money shot". However some of us are blessed with a gift for photography and thus have been nominated into the Top Photographers category. Leading the pack is Michel Dei-Cont (DC Mike), with Peter Lambert and Pierre Marqua in second and third respectively.

If pictures can paint a thousand words, then videos must be literary masterpieces. Nothing amps me up more than to watch a sick vid before a surf, nothing gets me jumping off walls quite like a solid vid does, with sick riding and even sicker riders a good vid hits the spot. So to pay homage to the brave souls who dare to film and lighten our lives we annually run the Top Videographer award in our readers poll. Currently in first place is Peter Lambert, followed by Jared Schafer in second and Neels Smit in third.

Bodyboarding is all fun and games when you are in the water with a couple of mates, but behind the scenes it is another story altogether. It takes a considerable amount of effort and dedication to keep the bodyboarding public entertained and organise the running of contests. Currently leading the Service to the Sport poll, and I must say rightfully so, is once again Kelly Footit. Not far behind him are Alistair Taylor and Peter Lambert.

Remember guys this is your poll, you choose who wins. So get your votes in before 31 December 07 to make your choice.

Thus far we have had over 1200 votes from more than 180 members and we hope to get more ... lets make this the biggest and best Readers Poll yet!
