WPBA announces new committee

posted by Gareth White on 16th November 2007

2008 is almost upon us and yet again another year seems to have crept by in the blink of an eye. With this new year the Western Province Bodyboarding Association (WPBA), has undergone changes in its Committee, with long-serving members stepping down and relative newcomers rising to the challenges that lay ahead.

Firstly the WPBA would like to thank both Angus Houston and Anmari Basset for their dedication and selfless efforts over the years. Thank you guys!

The new committee, as elected by WPBA members, is as follows:-

Deon Meyer - Chairman
Sally Mellish - Treasurer / Sponsorship
Peter Lambert - Sponsorship / Public Relations / Rider Rep
Jamie Higgins - Contest Director
Gareth White - Media
Johnny Maritz - Development
Jane McClure - Secretary
Lea Swanepoel - Schools’ League / Media

Once selected, the new committee met to discuss plans for the coming year and ways in which to take the WPBA to the next level.

First on the agenda was the South African Bodyboarding Association, Cape Classic, which will be run together with the WPBA and held between the 21st to the 23rd of March 2008, with the possibility of a fourth day being included shortly. As of yet the location for the event has not been finalised and organisers are looking into numerous options in order to ensure that both sponsors and competitors are pleased with their choice of venue.

Proposals for next years WPBA Trial dates were heard and members decided on the following structure and fees.

WPBA Trials 2008

It was suggested that the trials should be held earlier in the year.

Eg. First trial in Feb, one in March, one in May and the fourth and final trial in June.

Fee structure for 2008 is as follows:-

One Division: WP Fee R110, Plus R55 per trial, plus WP Champs R90 or R390 for the year.

Pro Division: WP Fee R135, Plus R80 per trial, plus WP Champs R110 or R530 for the year.

Two Divsions: WP Fee R110, Plus R110 per trial, plus WP Champs R180 or R680 for the year.

Pro & Division: WP Fee R135, Plus R135 per trial, plus WP Champs R200 or R810 for the year.

It was decided that if members paid the years fees in full by the second trial (March), they would receive a Limited Edition WPBA t-shirt as well as the regular members t-shirt. So if you have the means to pay upfront why not take advantage of this special offer?

The WPBA is looking into possible group activities for its members to develop more exclusive advantage of being a member. So stay tuned for news of the exciting events in the pipeline!
