Today, August the 3rd, a new form of competition was held at the Arica Chilean Challenge. A battle for country bragging rights in the form of a World Team Challenge was held. 10 heats of 4 rides were produced from countries such as Chile & Australia as well as mixed teams with two Latin American team one world team (Brazil, USA & South Africa) & Mixed Team France, Reunion Island & Tahiti. Along with them came island based teams with two Canary Island teams and one Hawaiian team. The events scores where based on a teams top 3 scores, with two prone and one dropknee score counted.

The competition started with light winds and 4ft swell with good sections. The first heat went down with Hawaii (M.Stewart, J.Hubb, D.Hubb & P. Benco) VS. Latin America Team 1. The Hawaiian team had dominated the good conditions of the early morning and progressed to the semi finals with Latin America 1 being sent to the lossers round. A big moment was Dave Hubbard's double DK barrel. Heat two saw a huge upset with Team World (P. Barcelos, M. Oleveria, J.Bitzer & M. McCarthy) taking out the heavy handed Team Australia 1 (B. Player, A. Luehman, D. Winchester & M. Rawlins).

Next on the list was the Canary Teams VS Portugal and again Canary Islands VS Mixed Team France, Reunion Island & Tahiti. The Mixed teams seemed to have the most luck during the early rounds along with Team Hawaii , Canary Islands progressing again into the Semis.

The Semis had epic battles between team Hawaii and Mixed Team France, Reunion and Tahiti. Hawaii had prevailed as well Canary Island team 2 into the finals. The Canary team had taken out the second team Australia and sent the Aussies back home to get ready for the next days event.

In the final the conditions detirorated and it was Hawaii who was able to win by staying in rythem. Jeff Hubbard and Paul Benco where both able to find the only two barrels of the heat which was enough to put them on the map as the World Team Champs at the Arica Chilean Challenge.
