The confirmation came from The IBA Director of Competition Derek Hulme. The news was received with a lot of excitement and happiness, since the athlete has dreamed about this title for many years and now it has come to reality.
"When I received the news I almost didn't believe. I am very happy and don't know what to say. I have put a lot of years towards achieving this dream and when it comes true it is hard to believe" said Neymara with a lot of emotion.
The WWT 2003 had a new format this year, with Regional Events that aim to support and stimulate young competitors to rank on the Tour to supplement the International Events at Pipeline and Sintra. Neymara placed 2nd at Pipeline and 1st at Sintra.
The Tour had 7 events: Hawaii, Portugal, Morocco, France (Biarritz and Lacanau), Brazil, and one in Portugal in December. The entire ranking will be released at the end of the year after the last event.
"I had to give priority for the more important events because of the lack of sponsorship. I tried my best to achieve good results in these events and that was what happened"
Neymara is the youngest daugher of Lindalva and Evandro, owners of a famous restaurant in Barra do Jucu/Vilha Velha called "Brega's Bar". When 13 years of age she had her future as the owner of a trailler bar in the beach that would help the income of the family. Selling snacks and drinks she would be known as the queen of the beach.
With certain aspect her parent's dreams where achieved but instead of owning a bar her steps went to the direction of the waves....and now is the World Champion of Bodyboarding.
With all the difficulties Neymara had great love for the sport always fighting for her dreams. "I can only thank GOD and my parents that have always supported me through the dificult times. I want to Thank the entire town of Barra do Jucu where everything started....
