360° Surf Classic

posted by Rheinhard du Toit on 3rd April 2007

The 360° Surf Club will be holding their 1st ever contest from 6th - 9th April 2007. The 360° Surf Classic will take place at Alkantstrand over the long Easter weekend giving the event a 2 day window period with the running of the contest scheduled to take not more than 2 days. The contest will be open to anyone but will feature only 2 divisions, namely Pro and Dropknee.

The aim of holding the event is to expose local bodyboarders and the public to an increased level of competition and the extreme nature of bodyboarding. Organisers hope to attract the most talented bodyboarders locally and possibly nationally and are aiming to put on a show with the best riders competing against each other in the best possible conditions.

The event will also provide valuable experience to the local riders who will be competing in the Northern KwaZulu-Natal trials and the national events taking place at the end of April, in July and for SA Champs in September. The contest will also give our local riders a chance to compete for prizemoney and prizes in a local season without Pro/Am competition.

Also on the cards for the weekend is a trial run for a Jet-ski Tow In speciality event to increase the crowd wow factor and to attract more media attention. Details are still being worked out for this exciting idea but provisionally the aim is to hold the heats at 12:00 with a small number of selected Pros being asked to take part.

Entry fees will be R80 for each rider in the Pro Division and R60 each for Dropknee division. Cost will be R120 if you enter both divisions. Contest T-shirts will be supplied to each entrant and there will be cash and product prizes up for grabs. Contestants are asked to be on the beach everyday at 7:00am to find out details for the day.

The contest will be run by Rheinhard du Toit of 360° Surf and Skate Club as contest director with help from the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Bodyboarding Association who will provide the equipment needed to hold the event. The event will be held independently of the provincial and national bodyboarding associations but will follow their policies and guidelines for the running of contest.

So, get your entries in and come and see if you can take on the best the Bay has to offer.
