Hi everyone

The new SABA membership form for 2007 is available for download on www.sabaonline.co.za under the Library tab. Please make sure you fill in your details and send it in to Sally Mellish before the first event you compete in this year.

I did make a note about the increased fees earlier, but just to reiterate – the fees have gone up because SABA has pretty much been run as a charity organization for too long now. The fees SABA charge are minimal compared to membership in many other sporting bodies, and still are even after these increases. For bodyboarding in SA to grow, SABA needs to be run more like a business, and any business needs capital to function. Some of the things we’d like to accomplish having a bit more money available – having a permanent secretary position to handle the admin, and secondly, hiring a company that specializes in sponsorship procurement to go out and get some real sponsorship for SA bodyboarding.

At the moment, myself and the executive committee are stretched too thin on the time we commit to SABA – we all work full time, have families, and other personal interests, as well as needing to sleep occasionally – so we as a team, in spite of wanting the best for bodyboarding, are never going to be able to lift bodyboarding to its potential on our spare time. Hopefully these baby steps we’re now taking will result in better admin for SABA, a better tour and bigger sponsorships for the riders.

Also, we have raised the prize money levels and prizes in all divisions 20% for this year, so you’ll be competing for a bit more incentive from now on.

Any questions, please email your local SABA representative or any of the SABA exco committee members. Contact details are all listed on the membership application.

All the best and good luck in your contests this year....
