On Saturday, the Western Province Bodyboarding team held a team building in preparation for SA Champs being held in Durban later this month from the 24-30 September. The team helped out with the development clinic that the Western Province committee had organized for 20 kids from Du Noon (Table view area). These kids were shown the basic routines on the beach - exercise, warm ups, basic respect for the sea, how to hold your board and what to do in an emergency. After this briefing, they were taken into the sea with some of the team members and shown the practical aspects of taking waves. It was a great thrill watching their elated faces as they began taking the waves and was most rewarding for all of us to see.

The development clinics have been thirsty for new equipment as much of the equipment donated by the team and public was getting a lot of usage and was in really bad condition. The committee was lucky enough to get 2nd Surf Shop to come aboard. The kind donation of wetsuits and fins was greatly appreciated and was a major booster for the children. They were in high spirits and were so stoked to have proper equipment. We couldn't keep them out the water - they were having so much fun. Our sport is rapidly growing with the help of these clinics and so receiving the equipment from 2nd surf shop was a great blessing to ensure the kids benefit fully from them. Thanks to
Mike Styles for his support.

A few riders from the development program have grown into the healthy life style that bodyboarding has to offer. The biggest success last year included two development riders, Justin and Jason Lawrence who, through their growth due to the clinics, made the 2005 team to go to SA champs. We look forward to future clinics and hope to see more success stories happening as a result. 2nd Surf has given us this opportunity. The WP team is in training and are looking forward to bringing back the trophy as the national champions!

I still have my old 42 Manta from years back. Only rode it for three weeks and now stored in a cool dry place - Not the greatest (stiff & no channels...) but I'm sure one of the lighties would be stoked. Want it? [email protected]
