Logic Mag turns 2 - and what a party!
posted by Craig Kolesky on 13th December 2005
How do you put two year's worth of sweat, blood, boards, sunburn, laughter and tears into a single event?
Quite simple really - when you're the man responsible for putting together the only dedicated bodyboarding magazine in the whole of Africa - you hire a venue, put up some sound, throw together three of the country's hottest live acts, add a DJ and invite everyone you know.
The Logic Magazine 2nd Birthday party at Mercury Live on Friday 9th December as organised by Logic ed. head Craig Kolesky was proof that bodyboarders are a close community - who like to party!
By 21:30, the downstairs venue was capacity packed and the party was on as invited guests, celebrity riders, band members and curious bystanders mingled and toasted two years of bodyboarding in print. A few minutes after ten, the upstairs area was also near-packed as Durban band Sitter took to the stage and proceeded to rock out in fine style, delivering a stunning set of tunes and getting the crowd roused up before the next local act - The Shy Guevaras. Now these dudes present hard rock with a delicate edge and lead singer Gareth commands a formidable stage presence, leaving little doubt in anyone's mind that this is THE band to watch out for in 2006. Leaving the stage after a 40-minute extended set (these guys love performing!) meant it was time for a quick refill at the bar before heading back to the dancefloor for headline act LPShow. Lead singer Galen (a pro surfer himself) let rip from the first chord and really got the place jumping to all the old LPShow favourites and the band kindly treated us to some new material that hinted at a forthcoming album. They bowed out amid shouts for one more song! and it was up to the DJ (Jon Monsoon) to turn up the heat and bring the boogie. All in all - a wicked evening and a fine testament to bodyboarding with two years' worth of Logic Magazine at the helm, giving a voice and a face to the amped art of bodyboarding! Here's to the next two and beyond! VIVA LA BOOGIE!
A massive BIG UP to all the sponsors that donated product which was tossed into the crowds and eagerly received from the hands of the various bands and DJ on the night. Thanks for all the support!
