Former Pro Jacky Buder Gravely Ill

The Buder family is telling their story about Jacky's fight with Guillain Barre Syndrome in hopes of educating others and making a difference. Jacky's story a 2 part report is scheduled to air on KGMB-9 News (cable channel 7) on Thanksgiving Day #1 at 6:00pm and #2 at 10:00pm. Jacky Buder is a former World Champion Body Boarder from Honolulu, Hawaii. Around the world in the surf scene he is known for his talented drop knee style. He graduated from Kaimuki High School. Jacky has recently moved out of the spotlight and into family life. He lives close to his parents and sister Erika Buder-Nakasone in the Moilili-University area. Over the years, Jacky has worked towards making a difference in mentoring to young body boarders and teens in Hawaii. Jacky has started his own surf wear logo called "Barefoot League" www.barefootleague.com. However, most of Jacky's projects have gone to help young folks in the body boarding scene.

Jacky and his wife Courtney have a daughter Chelsea. She was born on October 13, 2003. Since then, Jacky's life has revolved around Courtney and Chelsea. He has loved his new role as father and husband and he couldn't wait to come home each day to see his little girl. On October 13, 2004, Jacky and his family celebrated his daughter Chelsea's first birthday. However, just a little over 2 weeks later, Jacky's life dramatically changed....

On October 28, 2004, Jacky told his wife Courtney, something strange was happening to him. He felt tingling in his hands and feet. That, started his journey and fight with Guillain Barre Syndrome.

Jacky is currently paralyzed from the neck down and is fighting for his life. This is not due to an accident but instead a virus!
