How can we resist a life like this?

Evals is a little company based in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. We began making clothing and accessories a few years ago, just to satisfy ourselves, but soon realised that there was a market for a lot of the stuff and decided to start selling it on a small scale. And so far, it’s worked pretty well.

It’s difficult not to love South Africa when you live in a place like Plett. Which might be why we’re so keen on ensuring that our work is all locally manufactured. By making use of the talent and skill here, we’re guaranteeing that no good South African money is being sent overseas. In the long run, it’s better for everyone.

So what is Evals? In the never ending cycle of underground culture becoming popularised and spawning a new-wave of counter-culture thinking, which then commercialises itself as well, how does a label define itself?

You’ve also got to consider that Anti-Establishment ideas are hot at the moment, so in order to be something, you kind of have to not be anything.

It’s a backward and confusing atmosphere, but Evals just wants to keep it simple. We aren’t attached to any serious ideology, we just make clothes that we like, and hopefully you will too.
