World Teams Challenge 2005

posted by Steve Kirkman on 23rd August 2004

I have great pleasure to announce the World Bodyboard Teams Challenge (WBTC), which is planned for South Africa in August 2005. The event will run over 7-8 days, but this will depend on the number of teams entered.

We are still in the planning stages of the event and this letter is being sent to gauge the level of interest from countries around the world.

The format would be similar to the Football World Cup with teams being put into pools. There will be a maximum 2 Teams per country and at this stage the teams would consist of 4 Open Men, 2 Women, 3 Junior men ( 21 years old or younger at 31st December 2005), 1 Drop Knee, Coach and Manager. This brings the total to 12.

Entry fee for the event is still being decided, but will be approximately US$1000.00 per team. I stress that this is NOT a full professional event and is designed to have a good mix of both professionals and amateurs alike. Depending on the amount of Sponsorship raised and the number of Teams entered, there will be a cash prize and Trophies for the winning Team, and the prestige of being the best Bodyboard Team in the World.

Please respond as soon as possible if your Country or Region would like to enter 1 or 2 Teams. Planning will be a lot easier once we start to receive this list. I will post the list of Interested Countries onto the website as they come to hand. Teams are invited from every Country around the World not just the IBA regions.

This is a great opportunity for us to come together under the one banner, united for our Sport. Please contact Steve Kirkman, [email protected] for any questions or to register your Team.
