West, Wedges and Winning

posted by James Jones on 3rd October 2014

With the South African Bodyboarding Championships starting this coming Monday 6th October 2014, the title of this release sums up what everyone is hoping to have come their way.

Firstly, "West"... As the locals say, West is Best and we are really hoping it will live up to its title and that all of the competitors score some epic West Beach this week for this years SA Champs, so far, having looked into what the swell and wind charts are saying, it looks as though we could be in for some solid West Beach at various stages of this coming week.

Secondly, "Wedges"... According to my sources, word has it that the bank at West Beach are looking good, with the beach having flattened out a little bit, and with it breaking a bit further out, allowing for the oncoming swells to hit the flatter sections of the wall to create bigger side walls, creating some good wedges.

Lastly, Winning"... Is this not why we are all here?
SA Champs is slightly different for the normal individual gains that come with winning. Firstly it is about "Team" at SA's, with provinces battling it out for top honours and be crowned the best region in SA on bodyboarding terms. Provinces from West to East include Boland, Western Province, Southern Cape, the Hosts Eastern Province, Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal, and the defending champs Central Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Then the individual gains that come with winning. This is the biggest event on the South African Bodyboarding calendar for the year, and winning this event will give you the title of SA Champs in your division. The divisions include Boys, Juniors, Mens, Ladies, Dropknee, Masters, Grand-Masters and the Pro division. Look out for local riders like Clinton Millard and Ryan Botha in Mens, Dylan van Tonder, Murray van Vuuren, and Jot De Lauwere all in Pros, Kyle Hiscock in Juniors and the obvious out of town threats like Andrew Raath, Ethan Nel, Terence Pieters, Michael "Ratt" Ostler, Iain Campbell, John Barry Coleman, and many many more.

With the last few days of preparation ahead before the event kicks off, who will be crowned the best team in South Africa? And, which riders will stand above the rest for the title? With the biggest players South African Bodyboarding has to offer, who will it be?

Come witness the highest standard of bodyboarding there is to offer!
