All Aboard for the Plett Wedge Classic 2013

posted by Janet Middleton on 1st July 2013

The countdown to this year's Wedge Classic has begun and in just two days, Plett's Wedge Beach will be transformed into a hive of activity that will see riders competing for the coveted title of "King of the Wedge".

Entries have flooded in and Louise Craig of OfftheHook Events says: "We've had confirmation from a number of past entrants that they will be riding again this year and we can't wait to welcome them all back."
Unfortunately last year's women's champion, Pamela Bowren, who represented South Africa at the 2012 World Games, has had to pull out of the competition this year due to a knee injury that will require a 6 month rehabilitation period.  She is hoping to be back in the water by November 2013.
"We were really sorry to learn of Pamela Bowren's injury and wish her a speedy recovery.  We look forward to seeing her at the Wedge again next year" says Louise, and adds, "We hope to see lots of other female riders coming through and are keen to see what new talent is out there."
The development of new bodyboarding talent is always a vital and rewarding part of this SABA (South African Bodyboarding Association) Sanctioned event line-up and sees enthusiastic youngsters taking to the water to learn some of the basics about the sport.  This year the development clinic will be run by Born in Africa and prizes for this category have been sponsored by The Surf Shop.
Once again sponsors across the board have really come to the party and contestants can look forward to prizes to the value of R15 000.  With brands like Glider, Crush and Hurley as well as Plett Sports and Lizzard, The Table Restaurant and OfftheHook Seafood Cafe, there are some epic prizes up for grabs.
In addition to this, Cape Go Adventures and Off Shore Worx are sponsoring training and adventure vouchers to the value of R32 000!  Robberg Fine Foods, the Wedge's longest standing sponsor, have also continued their support by sponsoring the rider's event t-shirts.
After 3 days of serious competition contestants and spectators can party the night away at the official Wedge Classic Prize Giving and After Party at VIP Nightclub.  There will be separate over and under 18 sections at the party.   We are so looking forward to the Wedge Classic! If you are not going to be in Plettenberg Bay follow the action on Facebook(https://www.facebook.com/wedgeclassic) or Twitter(@WedgeClassic) #Wedge2013.
If you are competing, the list of entrants has been posted on the Plett Wedge Classic and SABA Facebook pages. So check it out to ensure that your entry is correct.
