Michael Ostler Podcast interview

Ratt, so how long did it take to collect the clip?

It took pretty long. No excuse I could have been more "professional" chased down my footage regularly, chased video guys to film more often. Thiel Board co flew Billy Tennant out to Hawaii to film which gave me a big boost in footage as well as the trip to Bali. It took a while to get this one together but I'll work a lot harder in future to make sure they become more regular.

There has been a spike in wave action for November in Durban, where have you been getting premium shacks?

Haha funny, waves in Durban and it goes viral. hahaha. Nah waves have been good everywhere. I've shared some of the best waves of my life at Cave Rock. This entire year has been really, really good there. Same time North Beach has been amazing. A lot of east swell pushing into the bay and in turn some amazing days of riding. It's been an awesome year here in my home town.

What the plan's from here? Youtube channel? World tour? Flow domination?

Well next year I've structured my year/budget a lot better. I'm hoping I've made the correct tactical move and it works out. I'll be working with TBC and Iain Campbell, which is epic. Iain and I are in the same boat so it's really cool to push one another and being a ranger it gets very heated. Iain since day one, is my most competitive friend, so we feed off one another, pushing each other in and out the water, so teaming up with him and taking on the new year seemed the only way to go. Unfortunately no Hawaii for either of us. It's a risk we feel is worth taking. So we will see how that goes.... As far as flow goes, that is a tough one. I didn't compete in the Flow Champs this year for a few reasons, I'd have loved the opportunity to go. Unfortunately Wavehouse Durban can only send one bodyboarder and obviously Billy is the number one choice, the guy's un-stoppable. So I had to take it on the chin and let it go. As for next year, I'll probably just be using the wave house for photoshoots and video rather than contests. I'll see what happens though ...

When are you planning to drop the next episode?

ASAP. I have a planner and it's all been pencilled in. I'll be dropping a "Run- in" Wavehouse episode soon, working with some cool video and stills guys, Big Red Photography, Ryan Jansen. Waves permitting I should have another podcast in the next few months. However I am going to be working with the TBC team and creating episodes for regular viewing so that's something I'll be focusing on and looking forward to ...

Well done from us here @ sixty40 and keep 'em coming.

Thanks Kru and Gang. Just wanna say thanks for all the support. Hope your work going into our sport is noticed and we as bodyboarders continue growing from strength to strength. You guys at Sixty40 are doing an amazing and selfless job. THANK YOU.
