If you should take away this contest it would be a massive blow to the bodyboarding industry. Bodyboarders should be treated the same as surfers getting as good a waiting period as them. They surf the same size waves and are probably more exciting to watch due to the amount of big airs that are done out pipeline on a bodyboard. This event means allot to the bodyboarding community running year after year and should be kept that way!!!! |

People who are trying to make something of them selves and searching sponsors will not succeed. It is not the companies fault; they do not want to put their money into a rider who has no media exposure except for maybe one or two mags and some cheap videos (not saying that videos and magazine do nothing). It all comes down to exposing bodyboarding to the public, if we don't. Companies do not need to support bodyboarders. The companies know that we will purchase items (boards, wet suits, etc) because we love our sport and always will. Companies want more than just the bodyboarding community purchasing items. They want kids, parents, grand parents who ever to purchase their products and these products can not sell them selves. They need a starting block, and for bodyboarding that is holding large scale competitions like the Pipe Comp to prove that bodyboarding is one of the best sports in the world. Competitions aren’t always about the people winning, they are about promoting and gaining peoples interest towards the sport. We need the Pipe comp not for the competitors, but for the public exposure and with public exposure and interest will lead our sport into a level we are yet to reach with more company interest, more money, more opportunities and allowing the sport to become what we have all dreamed. |

the pipeline contest often times is televised and videotaped for bodyboarders around the world to view the bodyboarding pipeline contest. I have seen many of the pipeline contests through out the last 20 years, and not having the contest this year would not only deprive me from seeing bodyboarding at its most advanced level, but 1000's of bodyboard enthuiasts world wide.
