165928 Oct 2004Ryan WatkinsLa MercySouth AfricaFor tourism's sake, keep it running. I went to Oahu twice and spent big money supporting the locals... It's madness to chop the bodyboarding community's cash out of your tourism income.

165428 Oct 2004Duke MetcalfCape TownSouth AfricaAs the past Chairman of the South African Bodyboarding Association I can only mention that the Pipe event has been the "Wimbledon" of bodyboarding the only event that evryone has ever wanted to participate in given a chance. Mike Stewart has been an absolute ambassor for Hawaii and it would be a shame if we were to lose this event.

163028 Oct 2004Alex Schaffer CzechSan FranciscoUnited StatesThe Pipe Contest is professional bodyboarding's most recognized event. Not only does the draw of this event bring people from all over the world, but from an economical standpoint for the economy of Oahu, and more importantly the North Shore area, does this draw of international visitors bring money and economic means for the local population. I am sorry to hear of this news. I could only hope that those who issue the permit look back into the history of the event, and recognize its importance to the international commuinty that it caters to. Including the local population. If they want more money, then they should just fill Pipe in with some dirt and make a golf course out of the space. My regards to those putting time into making this event happen.
162928 Oct 2004Jack McElvennySydneyAustraliaI am extremely upset at this, professional bodyboarding is in a downswing at the moment because of the lack of sponsorship dollars, which is going straight to stand-up

162428 Oct 2004Wes FalikLaguna BeachUnited StatesThis discrimination against bodyboarding is ridiculous and needs to stop. We are all into riding waves for the same reason, whether on a surf board or a body board, some one needs to right this wrong before it gets out of control.
