McCarthy Wins BSC Avalon Pro!!

posted on 18th July 2008

With many of the international and top Australian bodyboarders in town for the Shark Island Challenge The BSC Pro was sure to attract a stellar field at North Avalon on Sydney's Northern Beaches yesterday.

Ryan Hardy (Australia) fresh off a second place at the Island fell short to South Africa's Wesley Fischer in the semi-finals. Mitch Rawlins (Australia) and Dave Winchester (Australia) both fell in the quarter finals and an in form Jonathan Vega (Canary Islands) and Magno Oliveira (Brazil) who had been ripping all day also fell short of the final which was was competed in some fun 2-3 footers.

In the end it was Mark McCarthy (South Africa) who managed to find ARS bowls and outclassed this stellar field. Making up the places were Nathan Branch (Port MacQuarie, Australia) in second, Wes Fischer (Durban, South Africa) in third with fourth place going to Corey McLean (Gold Coast, Australia).

McCarthy heads off next week to Chile for the Arica Challenge. With two good recent results in Australia under his belt he will be undoubtedly be going into the event as a hot favourite, looking to secure his first World Tour win.
