All out Class on Final Day of The Wedge Classic 2008.

posted by Gareth White on 10th July 2008

The sun shone, the winds were light offshore and surf in the region of 2 to 3 foot rolled into the bay with some regularity. There were even a couple of 4 foot gems to be had if you were lucky enough.

The day started with the running of the Ladies division semi finals. Plett local, Lyndall Pells and current SA Ladies Champ, Pamela Bowren were the first to impress with their solid riding abilities. Making it through to the finals were, Geline Derbyshire, Pamela Bowren, Jocelyn Norton and Lyndall Pells.

Next it was time for the big boys of the Pro division to test their metal in the challenging conditions during the quarter finals. As per usual, big rolls and clean air rolls spins were the order of the day. Making it through to the semi-finals were Sacha Specker, Marc Jucker, Samuel Kamffer and Michael Ostler in the first semi and Daniel Worsley, Vaughn Harris, Justin Lindsay and Dane Beales in the second.

After an epic battle during the semi finals, Michael Ostler, Vaughn Harris, Justin Lindsay and Sacha Specker advanced to the finals.

Competition in the Juniors division was as tough as ever and the young guns of SA bodyboarding put on a fantastic performance for the crowd. Those who made it into the final were, Bradley Moys, Adam Waites, Dane Beales and Jayden Alford-Loots.

The Mens division competitors didn't have it easy either and often sat on their nerves while waiting out the long lulls between sets. Those making it through to the finals were, Darryn Campbell, Ryan Jucker, Wesley Potts and JP Nortier.

The Boys division finalists seemed to have the most fun in the smallish surf and were able to bust some rather impressive manoeuvres. The finalists were, Sebastian Koopmans, Murray Van Vuuren, Niklas Martin and Chris Kleynhans.

The Drop Knee semi finals were held during some of the longest lulls of the day, but when the sets arrived there were solid barrels and launch ramps to be had. Those who mad eit to the finals were, Sacha Specker, Daniel Worsley, Samuel Kamffer and David Lee.

The Masters division final was competed between Wayne Craig, Len Bradford, Shannon Harris and Corne Smith.

And for now…all that I am going to say about the Expression Session is…epic, epic, epic! That guy must have wings!

Tune in tomorrow to find out who the winners were.
