Tenth Anniversary for Highest Rated Bodyboarding Tournament

The tenth anniversary of the highest rated event on the 2006 South African Bodyboarding Association (SABA) calendar, the Wimpy Rossi Pro-Am, will be celebrated in fine style at Margate beach on Kwa Zulu Natal’s south coast from April 28 to 30.

The Wimpy Rossi Pro-Am has grown exponentially each year into the most popular event on the nationwide SABA circuit. The 5A rated tournament carries prizes and cash to the tune of R50, 000.

Organisers are expecting a bumper amount of crowds at the beach as the Wimpy Rossi Pro-Am falls over a 5-day long weekend. The event has been allocated three days to run but organisers only require two full days of heats to allow for being selective in choosing the best surf conditions.

"I am really excited about the Wimpy Rossi Pro-Am, we are into the tenth year and have already confirmed more sponsors on board. We are anticipating entries from at least three international riders but they should be aware of the threat posed by the national team riders and our talented south coast locals," said SKZNBA Chairman Wayne Beekman

Divisions include pro, boys, juniors, men, women, masters, drop knee, under 12 boys, under 16 girls and a well supported development section.

In addition to the generous prizes there will be valuable SABA rating points up for grabs which accumulate over the year to determine the ultimate SABA champion in each division.

In addition to the contest www.factory7.co.za is putting up the Best Trick Trampoline Contest to add to the entertaining line up; all contests will have unlimited access to the trampoline throughout the event.

Surf M’Ocean has offered a R500 cash prize for the best move of the contest.

Organisers have opted to utilise a three day contest window period in order to stage the two day event in the best surf that the venue has to offer.

This popular tournament is sponsored by the Wimpy Margate and Rossi Bodyboards and is supported by the Hibiscus Coast Tourism board. Other sponsors include www.Factory7.co.za, Lesans Extreme Makeover Clinic and Ocean Eyewear.

Entries close on Wednesday April 26 at 10.00pm
