HB Pro-Am: Briefing

posted by John Cawood on 16th December 2004

The briefing took place tonight, the 16th December, at the Bonamanzi Restaurant on the beach. A quick welcome speech by chairman of NKZNBA, John Cawood took place where he thanked the sponsors Sonic Footwear, Macs Fish and Chips, MacDonalds, Y2K Industrial Cleaning, uMhlathuze Tourism and www.surfalliance.co.za. John then handed proceedings onto Marc Rossouw who explained the contest format, heat times etc. to the bodyboarders. After a quick contest t-shirt presentation, it was all over.

The briefing was made quick due to large amounts of holidaymakers crowding the beach, a scary sight for some of the visitors to the bay.

Conditions today looked very contestable with 3-4 foot punchy sets rolling in. A leak in a sewarage pipe near the beach has threatened to cause problems for the event. (Reported on ECR news) Bathing was banned today from risk of contamination but by the afternoon, the bathers and a couple of riders were back in the water. We will see tomorrow morning if the leak will cause further problems.

The first day of competition should be exciting with the whole day being taken up with pro, junior and dropknee qualifiers and quarter finals. Riders changing divisions for the new season will feature and it will be interesting to see how they handled.

Come back tomorrow for news!
