Kumba Elandsbay Development Clinic II

Kumba Iron Ore Elands Bay development II 201416 June 2014 - Youth Day Boland Bodyboarding had a double header development clinic at Elands Bay on Youth Day 2014. The morning was spent with the top Lambert's Bay development kids taking them through a specialist training course covering areas like riding style and the importance of the correct posture on the board. Boland also covered the different types of spinners and how they are performed. The swell were big and this allowed Boland to teach the kids about water safety such as strong rip currents and how to handle 6 foot close outs. These kids progress with each session and some of them have the ability to become future champions. Lesley Gonsalves, the Development champion of 2013 performed a few massive rolls and well executed spin's - his riding style is also improving day by day.
The afternoon was spent with the Elands Bay development kids. The kids attended the drug aware course presented by the local police department. A massive thanks goes out to Warrant Officer De Lacey for delivering the course.
The Elands Bay kids have shown fantastic growth over the last 46 day's since they received their kit. Boland spent time explaining the importance of water safety. The kids were shown where rip currents form and how to handle themselves in situations where they get stuck in a current or rip. The basic riding techniques were also covered as well as stretching teqniques and routines before entering the water.
The 6 Lamberts Bay kids each took one of the Eland's Bay kids under their wing and it was good to see the skills transfer taking place. Also, 4 girls attended the development event. These girls show a lot of talent and we are hoping to see a Ladies champion very soon.
