although this day looks quite meaty, and i wouldn't want to take anything away from the guys willing to do it it, coz no matter what it takes balls, but generally i find the idea of bodyboarders bouncing down 20ft faces and sliding out, not too appealing. i think that "big wave surfing" as in dungeons, jaws and mavericks, really is more suited to stand-up surfing. what we have going for us is huge, heavy, slabbing, inch-deep reef-breaks eg. cyclops etc. that is where we out perform the surfers.

Man, when I see shots like this, I keep trying to think of ways to convince the contest directors to let some boogers run a demo during a break in the heats. Maybe tow in, maybe paddle, but just push for some mainstream exposure. Who's volunteering to ARS that section????

I agree. Great drama - the frozen moment before all hell breaks lose, as the two onlookers watch helplessly... Nice one, Pete - if this is the one you show, I'm gonna have to break in to see the ones you're saving for the mags!

Pete, this is one of the best pics I have seen in a very long time. So much better than the one that appeared on the front page of the Weekend Argus yesterday.
