Joshua - you should please try and pay into the SABA account but if for some reason you cannot, you can pay at the briefing.

I'll find out for you.

The briefing venue has been finalised - it is at Formosa Bay which if I remember correctly is on the N2 opposite the turn off down to town centre and the Wedge itself.

There is also going to be tow-outs again this year - if anyone remembers the cover shot which Spex got from last year ... it would definitely be one not to miss.

I think I have better memories of wedge contests than I do of the pipe contest in Hawaii.Truth.
You cant put a price tag on the wedge classic, worst wave, but the best contest.

Rick - assuming you're not riding pro and you need to pay the SABA one event membership, that would make your entry R190 - whether that is expensive is subjective, for some it may be for some it won't. But the fact is that in order for these events to happen, money needs to be raised through entry fees.

SABA itself is a voluntary organisation - no-one draws a salary and those on the committee contribute more than just their time. So my point is that no-one is "milking" anyone or getting rich from holding these contests - quite the opposite in fact - bodyboarding seems to milk these people who put the most back into the sport. But they do it for the love of the sport and it is unlikely that you will hear them moaning.

Your contest entry fee goes into the operational budget and the contest purse for the pro division. While the SABA affiliation fee is currently the sole source of funding for the organisation and without them these events would simply not happen.

I understand where you are coming from --- as a grom, I was never able to afford to compete on the full circuit but even though I hardly ever came out with a good result, the trips to comps with are some of my very good memories and it is something which I would suggest to everyone to try at least once and the Plett contest is one of the best on the circuit.

its is bizzare how expensive it is to just surf somewhere, i would surf the challenge but never pay someone as much as that. you dont get anything for your money and get milked silly even though you are good at the sport. . . .
